Haddington Twinning also took part in this year’s Haddstock Festival organising an informal Petanque afternoon on Sunday 29th May, again in Lady Kitty’s garden.

As well as Haddington Twinning petanquers, quite a number of Festival goers dropped by to have a go, including several youngsters who showed great enthusiasm for the game. The afternoon included delightful musical performances by Gullane Ceilidh Band and the Pencaitland Community Choir. The sun shone and many people just sat on their picnic rugs on the grass to enjoy the music and experience a little French culture in Haddington. C’etait une belle journee!

Haddington Twinning Association hosted the first Auld Alliance Cup Petanque competition in Lady Kitty’s Garden in Haddington on Saturday 21st May. Members of fellow East Lothian Twinning Associations from Musselburgh and Dunbar entered three teams each and they were joined by local U3A who also entered two teams. The Auld Alliance Cup or to be more precise, the Auld Alliance Claret Jug was kindly donated by Provost John McMillan. All of the teams played extremely well but Stuart McCombie and Alison McKenzie fought a valiant final with Ian Hackett and Pete Russell, all members of U3A, to win the beautiful trophy. A grand afternoon of Petanque, friendly rivalry and merriment was had by all.
